The Kermode Bear is British Columbia’s official mammal. Commonly known as a Spirit bear, they are a subspecies of the North American black bear with a rare recessive gene that makes their fur white or cream. They are not albino. There are estimated to only be about 400 of these bears in existence and can only be found in BC’s Great Bear Rainforest on the NW coast. (discoverwildlife.com)
